Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix resigned from office on Monday, hours after the publication of a video and photographs showing him kissing a lobbyist at a Des Moines tavern earlier this month.
In the footage, Sen. Bill Dix, a Republican from Shell Rock, who is married with three children, can be seen seated on a barstool next to the woman, before they both lean in and kiss.
One local politics site described the unidentified woman “as a lobbyist for various municipality groups.”
In a statement following Dix’s resignation, Senate President Jack Whitver said, “I believe he made the right decision for himself and for his district, but most importantly, I believe he made the right decision in the best interest of his family.”
Dix, 55, is married with three children, according to his legislative biography.
